Fertility Window Calculator

Track your fertile days and ovulation based on cycle data

Cycle Information

Select the first day of your last menstrual period
Typical range: 21-40 days
Average is 14 days, range 10-16

How to Use This Tool

Enter the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) using the date picker. Select your average cycle length from the dropdown (21-40 days, default 28). Select your luteal phase length (10-16 days, default 14). Click the Calculate Fertility Window button to see your results. Use the Reset button to clear all inputs and start over.

If you’re unsure of your cycle length, track your periods for 3 months and calculate the average number of days between the first day of each period.

Formula and Logic

This calculator uses standard reproductive health guidelines to estimate your fertile window:

  • Ovulation Date = LMP Date + (Cycle Length - Luteal Phase Length) days
  • Fertile Window = 5 days before Ovulation Date to 1 day after Ovulation Date (sperm can survive up to 5 days in the reproductive tract, and the egg survives 12-24 hours after ovulation)
  • Next Period Date = LMP Date + Cycle Length days
  • Current Cycle Day = Number of days since LMP + 1 (Day 1 is the first day of your period)
  • Days Until Ovulation = Number of days between today and your estimated Ovulation Date

The progress bar shows your current position in your cycle, with markers for your period, fertile window, ovulation, and next period.

Practical Notes

For the most accurate results, track your cycle for at least 3 months to confirm regularity. Irregular cycles may make estimates less reliable. Lifestyle factors like stress, travel, and illness can shift ovulation timing, so use this as a guide rather than a definitive prediction.

  • Track basal body temperature (BBT) or use ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) to confirm ovulation for higher accuracy.
  • Cycle length is counted from the first day of one period to the first day of the next.
  • The luteal phase (time between ovulation and next period) is typically 14 days but can vary between 10-16 days for most people.
  • This tool is for personal planning only and does not replace medical advice from a healthcare provider.

Why This Tool Is Useful

Planning for pregnancy or tracking reproductive health is easier with clear estimates of your fertile days. This tool eliminates manual date counting and provides a visual breakdown of your cycle, saving time and reducing guesswork. It’s accessible for anyone with basic cycle knowledge, no advanced medical training required.

The detailed results include multiple data points (ovulation date, fertile window, next period) so you have all the information you need in one place. The progress bar helps you quickly see where you are in your current cycle at a glance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this calculator if my cycles are irregular?

This calculator works best for regular cycles (consistent length within 2-3 days each month). If your cycles vary by more than 7 days, estimates may be less accurate. Track your cycles for several months to find your average length, or consult a healthcare provider for personalized guidance.

How accurate is the fertile window estimate?

Estimates are based on average cycle data and may vary by 1-2 days for individual users. For higher accuracy, pair this tool with OPKs or BBT tracking. Remember that sperm can survive up to 5 days, so the 6-day fertile window accounts for this variability.

Is my data stored or shared?

All calculations happen locally in your browser. No data is sent to servers or stored permanently. Clearing your browser cache will remove any saved inputs (though inputs are not stored automatically unless your browser saves form data).

Additional Guidance

If you have been trying to conceive for 12 months (or 6 months if you are over 35) without success, consult a fertility specialist. This tool is for informational purposes only and does not diagnose fertility issues.

Adjust the luteal phase length if you have tracked it previously: some people have shorter or longer luteal phases, which will shift the ovulation date. If you’re unsure, leave the default 14 days, which is the average for most reproductive-age people.
